College Football, ah yes, the question & the debate rages on every year around this time, "when will D-I have a playoff system." I've heard that question it seems like forever. The NCAA would have us all believe that a playoff system would not work in Division I-A. Wait! You mean to tell me that all of these college educated men & woman are dumb enough to let those words come out of their mouths?
In the American government we all know that there are companies that pass thousands, maybe millions to our congressmen/women & senators to sway their votes or influence. It's the same way with the NCAA. Somehow they would have us believe that a playoff system would not work, "it's not fair." Since when was football fair? in every game someone is going to lose, it is a part of life, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
Here's my solution, keep the bowl game for those who had great seasons, but did not make the playoffs. The playoffs would consist of 16 teams decided by rankings, voters, & records throw the computers out the window! The 1 & 2 seeds on both sides of the bracket would earn 1st round byes (NFL style +2 teams), so on & so on with the National Championship game being played at a neutral site TBD every year.
They complain about money, but adding a playoff system brings in addition revenue, not only that the National Champion is decided how it should have been chosen for the last 150 years....On the field!, but it's not going to happen simply because the NCAA doesn't care about doing the right thing, they care about money, but isn't money the root of all evil?
